Dr. Claire Kwagala is a Psychiatrist with a strong clinical and research focus on addiction psychiatry, particularly opioid use disorder among adolescents with sickle cell disease. She is dedicated to improving mental health outcomes through evidence-based interventions, research, and advocacy.
Dr. Kwagala is a mentee at the Africa Global Mental Health Institute, where she engages in mentorship and capacity-building initiatives to enhance mental health research and practice across the continent. She is also an alumna of the African College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AfCNP) and the Africa Mental Health Leadership Program, both of which have strengthened her expertise in psychopharmacology, leadership, and policy development in mental health care.
Her research interests include substance use disorders, adolescent psychiatry, and the intersection of mental health and chronic illnesses. She is committed to advancing psychiatric care through innovative approaches, mentorship, and collaboration with regional and global mental health networks.
